Simple and stylish these coasters are made from ~3mm veg tanned leather, hand-engraved and coated with a beeswax polish to waterproof and protect. 10.5cm diameter accommodates larger drinking vessels.

Avoid soaking in water - to clean use a damp soft cloth. It is recommended to reapply a layer of our beeswax polish or extra virgin olive oil after cleaning to replenish the protective coating.

About the engravings:

The Nordic compass or Vegvisir is thought to have its origins in the viking age. Traditionally thought of as a symbol of guidance and protection, that the bearer of the Vegvisir will always reach their destination, regardless of whether they know where their destination is. It is not a stretch to imagine a viking warrior carrying a leather disk with such an engraving on a long sea voyage.

Celtic knots in comparison were largely created as decorative pieces and with the exception of some common patterns there is little known about the symbolism they may or may not contain. The trinity knot used at the center of this design is one particularly common motif, as it was co-opted by Christian missionaries to symbolise the holy trinity of father, son and holy spirit. It also holds numerous possible meanings to followers of other pagan religions, representing the division of land, sea and sky or the three aspects of the triple goddess - mother, maiden and crone.
